Water System Update – Low Pressure and Discolored Water
Good evening,
While installing the new fire hydrant near the water storage tanks today, a significant amount of air entered the water system and became trapped in the lines, resulting in low water pressure this afternoon.
To remove the trapped air and restore normal pressure, our operators had to perform emergency hydrant flushing throughout the system. This flushing stirred up some of the naturally occurring minerals that have settled in the water mains.
Customers may temporarily notice black flakes or water with a dark purple or black tint. If your water is affected, please take the following steps:
- Remove the aerator from your kitchen faucet to prevent it from becoming clogged.
- Run the cold water until it is completely clear.
- Once the water is clear, clean and reinstall the aerator.
- Please wait to do laundry until your water is running clear, as discolored water may cause staining.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while the system settles.
